Minnesota, the land of sky blue waters, is also proudly proclaimed as being the land of 10,000 lakes. Although the lakes are as numerous as the Canada Geese in the above photo, there is only one “Talking Lake” and that is Lac Qui Parle.
This French phrase translates into English as “Lake that Speaks”. It originated with the Wahpeton Dakota who predated the French explorers in this area. Inspired by the sounds of the migratory birds, they poetically articulated the beauty of this lake.
